John Granen Photography

I am in love . . .

with a view from the lens.

SHELTER did a post today about neutral interiors and posted this pic from John Granen's photography website. I was immediately drawn to this photograph - the light, especially where it hits the vase of flowers, the simplicity of the room, the painted brick wall, and of course, the gorgeous headboard - so I decided to head over and peruse his work.

His interiors shots are AMAZING.
His photographs encapsulate everything I want my home to be - modern fixtures with more traditional accents. His perspective is perfect.
I can not wait till the day when my architect hubbie can make all of these beautiful images come to life in a home of our very own!

Trés Bien

Thinking about all things French lately.
David and I are planning to learn the language for a possible future extended stay in the country . . .
I would be perfectly content to spend the rest of my life in this french abode.

Redefined

I know that I am just one of many faithful readers of Domino who was really sad when the magazine closed its doors this past Spring.
My subscription was replaced with Architectural Digest, which was really funny since David was just about to start his grad program in Architecture - but I was not appeased. The magazine is great, but it is no Domino - not to me, at least. I loved Domino because it showed design that I felt was within my scope of ability and possibility.

I was really happy to see this announcement posted on M.A. Belle:

In a time when shelter publications are turning their last pages...

OUR MISSION is to reopen the doors of accessible design. By embracing an online platform we provide inspiration at the click of a finger, directly connecting our readers to their favorite products and resources. Our freedom from page limits means that we can share more content in each issue, delivering an intimate look into the way people really live.
At Lonny, we value independent thinking and believe not in following trends but rather in making choices that lead to happiness. We believe that good design and affordable design can coexist and that true inspiration can be found in the teeniest of homes or in the grandest of spaces.

Coming Fall 2009 ;)

Super exciting news!
I think an online design-within-reach magazine is a wonderful idea! I'm sure it's been done in some form before, but I really love all that Michelle Adams does at M.A. Belle, so I know this will be a magazine I will want to read!
Can't wait for Fall 2009!

Kitchen Love

I LOVE this striped floor from simply seleta! (I found it at Brown Button)
Once we actually own our own home, I will be installing my very own version of this flooring!
So lovely and simple. I adore the idea of black and white flooring with white cabinetry. It allows for interchangeable punches of color - like in the curtains, appliances, dishes, artwork - I could go on and on!

I could also handle this kitchen scene from Charleston Home Magazine. ( also found at pink wallpaper)

These dishes would look lovely in any kitchen. Exposed shelving is a MUST. Dishes this pretty should never be hidden! And I love the double nickel apron sink. I would remove the "double" part and it would be my ideal sink - that or a white apron sink!

And how adorable is this little breakfast nook from I Suwannee?

I could see myself wanting to eat breakfast there and read there and just relax there every morning!

Ahhh . . . I can't wait to have our own home!

Fanciful Thoughts

So, I love our little house. However, I greatly underestimated my love of central heating/air (especially the "air" part). We have a window unit, but it's in the kitchen, which is the central room, so it doesn't exactly reach the living room or the bedroom. I am adjusting, but it's very difficult.
We keep telling ourselves that this is what people have done for forever. Only in recent history have we had the luxury of air conditioning, and only a small percentage of the world's population is able to take advantage of that luxury.
This is what we keep telling ourselves.
But it is not helping yet.

So while I swelter, I thought I would turn my mind to more pleasing things, such as

this ADORABLE bathroom via Style Court.
I love crisp blue and white in the bathroom,
and the chair pattern wallpaper adds a bit of whimsy!

a subtle pink wall.
I am in love with the two prints on the left!
The gold with the warm wood of the console
all combined with the pink is brilliant.

This striped dress from Built by Wendy is very sweet.
Paired with some mocs this would be nice and casual and lovely.

100th Post: Our Little House

For my 100th post, I decided to finally post pictures of our new house. And when I say "new", I mean new to us, because our little house is actually 130 years old. So here are some photos. I am not a very talented photographer, so I don't really do the house justice. The light is amazing, but of course I can never figure out how to get a good picture without the flash. Oh well. We love it here and I've had the best time decorating it! I'm not quite done, but this is what we have so far.

Our porch with our knockout roses

The living room

I am so proud that we have finally framed this crest.
We got it three years ago with Janie and Adam
in Florida, and we took forever to frame it!

The kitchen - love the exposed shelving

David making our favorite Thai food

David did a wonderful job organizing our little recycling center

Our fireplace in the kitchen

The bedroom, with our trusty baseball bat

I love the picture of my dad on the dresser.
I need something for the frame on the left, but it's an odd size.

The bathroom

Our favorite place: the back yard

Our little scruffy girl.
She loves being outside and we love not having a litterbox!

The lovely hydrangeas

The jasmine smells wonderful

Our little fig tree getting the figs ready for us

And our little guardian on the roof.
His pants may be falling down,
but his purple pajamas look good otherwise.

So, there it is. It's going to be a hot summer, but we have a great neighborhood for riding bikes and sitting on the back porch every night!

Decorating

Now that we have an actual house to move into, all I can think about is DECORATING it!
As mentioned in a way earlier post, I am a list-making freak. I have made so many lists of things to buy and things to do - I lost count!
I love looking through the blogs I follow for decorating inspiration, and elements of style never fails!

Our couch and table are similar to the ones in this picture. Maybe I'll pick up a striped pillow and some black frames and put this room together!

I'm also a BIG fan of exposed shelving in the kitchen, which we will have in our new house!
I like the idea of hanging our pots from the shelves. I hate stacking pots, they get scratched and it's annoying to constantly stack and unstack them when we want to use them.
I really like the hanging pots in this picture, but I wonder how they get to the stuff on the second shelf; I would need a pretty big ladder!

I would like . . .

. . . a couple of floor-to-ceiling bookcases for our move to Atlanta. I am tired of lugging our 4 medium-small ones around.
I am looking for an apartment/house with built-in shelves (my dream) and I found one, but it was off the market within a week.
I love this setup. And I love the idea of grouping books by color!

We have 1.5 months till we move, and we don't even have time to start looking seriously until a week or two into May.
Yikes.
My impatience and need to control and organize is really being tested.
