Cabbagetown

So . . .

We have finally found a place to live in Atlanta!

We looked all over - Piedmont Park, Virginia Highlands, Candler Park, etc. and we liked the areas near the park, but even the small one bedroom apartments with no porch or washer/dryer were way overpriced.
We're kind of moving past the point of wanting to live in an apartment. We really, really wanted a house . . . and we found one.
We found an adorable shotgun house with a covered front porch, screened-in back porch, fenced-in back yard, 2 fireplaces, huge windows and so much more for the same price as those small one bedrooms!
When we first told our parents that the house is in Cabbagetown; they were not excited. I guess Cabbagetown used to be really sketchy 15 years ago or so, but it has been totally redone and now it's primarily young families and young professionals. I think the areas around the neighborhood may not be quite as nice, and there may be some pretty scary people there, but I have a plan! - more on that later.
I'm really excited! The neighborhood and the house remind us of Key West. All of the houses are brightly colored, bungalow-style homes with cute porches and restored wooden floors.
It's a 3-mile bike ride from our house to GA Tech, so David will hopefully be commuting via bike.
I don't have any good pictures of our house yet, but here a couple examples of houses in the neighborhood:

Not our actual house, but I'm sure as we start moving in, I will be taking many, many photos!
