Janie's Birthday, Part I

This past weekend we headed to Alpharetta to Amy and Nathan's for a dinner party for Janie's birthday and to catch up with everyone.
Our lovely hostess was my former roomie Amy.

After dinner, the picture-taking commenced:

Academy Awards 2009 = LOVE

Yes, I am one of the many who watch the Academy Awards every year. The past few years have been kind of a bore, but I LOVED the show this year! Hugh Jackman was a wonderful host, and the musical performances were amazing. I really loved the the number Baz Luhrmann directed with Beyonce!

Also, I really liked the way they presented the awards this year. For the best actor and actress, lead and supporting, they had past winners pay a special tribute to the nominees. I totally teared up when Anne Hathaway started crying during Shirley McClains' tribute to her.

The best part of the Academy Awards, as always, is the FASHION! These are my favorites:

Jessica Biel in Prada. She is gorgeous from head to toe!
I love the dress and her hair and makeup
and jewelry-basically everything about her!

Amy Adams in Carolina Herrera.
She is so pretty in red, and I love the necklace!

Natalie Portman in Rodarte. This color is amazing.
She has always been a favorite. I think she is one of the most
beautiful people ever.

And the always beautiful Meryl Streep.
If I age half as well as she has, I will be a very happy person.
In fact, that is one of my new life goals!

Homeward Bound

I love that song by Simon & Garfunkel. David and I are heading to Toccoa for the night for my brother's birthday. Sometimes, when work is dreary and you seem to be doing nothing but waiting, home is all you want.

Happy Birthday Broseph!

This is an old picture, but I think it sums up our relationship the best. I have the best older brother ever! He is extremely caring and loyal, intelligent, original, and fun! Few people understand me the way he does! I love you Aron. Thanks for being my friend.

Musique

I have been in the mood to title all of my posts in French lately. I'm not sure why.
For a Valentine's day present, David made me an ipod playlist with songs that I love, and a few of his favorites that he knew I would love. His gift sparked thoughts about all of the music I love, so I thought I would share some of it here. In no particular order:

Dear Weather,

Please choose one: hot or cold.
I would prefer cold (it is WINTER, after all).
It's not that difficult.

Thanks.

{Love}ly Day

I have never really been interested in making a big production out of Valentine's Day. David and I tried the expensive dinner route one year, and it was nice, but I much prefer the year that he made me a lopsided heart cake. This year, I think we are just going to have a nice dinner at home and maybe spend time with some friends.
That said, i REALLY I love holidays, and I particularly love Valentine's Day because of the beautiful shades of pink, purple, and red that seem to be everywhere. I also really love any excuse to eat chocolate, of course. So in honor of the upcoming holiday, here are my favorite Valentine's Day-inspired finds:

a pretty pink pantry

j crew's swiss dot dress in tea rose, which by the way is on sale!

topshop purple heels

yummy berry sorbet

beautiful lela rose ruffle dress-why oh why can't it have sleeves?

chocolate-dipped strawberries - so delicious!

my favorite cookie, ever!

i le love this blog!

Bijou

These pieces from Erie Basin are very handsome. I am so intrigued by antique jewelry. The store carries pieces from the 20th, 19th and 18th centuries. I think I like the swan best. It would look so pretty on the lapel of a coat.

Color on a Cold Day

I love the combination of green and yellow. garance doré takes the lovliest photos.

Baby, it's cold outside

When it's this cold outside, all I want is:

1. to NOT be at work

2. a comfy couch to curl up on, like this one from Ligne Roset

3. a fun movie, like Drop Dead Gorgeous

or Garden State

4. a yummy bowl of soup

5. and of course my love, to get cozy with-that's the best part!

Currently Reading

This is one of the best books I have ever read! I cannot wait to finish it. The images in the novel are heartbreakingly beautiful and unforgettable. I can't believe I waited so long to read it! David kept telling me how wonderful it is, and I had it on a "to read" list, but for some reason I never picked it up.
The story follows the main character Pi Patel. Yann Martel gives glimpses of Pi's life, including his experience of being stranded in a life boat with a hyena, an orangutan, a zebra and a Bengal tiger. I feel a sense of familiarity when I read this novel. The images and setting are foreign, but the emotions are so familiar. Happiness is Martel's sloth and the Pondicherry zoo. If you have not read this book-read it!

The PERFECT Trench!

I almost fainted when I saw J Crew's new trench coat! I have been obsessing over trenches for the past few months (just ask David). I've been searching for the perfect one and of course, J Crew provides my dream trench-with a $298 price tag.

Could it be more adorable with the jeans and pink heels?
Why do they do this to me?
